Slaven Zambata

Slaven Zambata is best known for his Croatian playing career in the 1960s in the sport of soccer, or football, as it is known in Europe. Born in 1940 in the town of Sinj in the former Yugoslavia, he was signed by Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 18. Over a period of ten years, Zambata scored a total of 267 goals for his team. His playing position was forward.

Among his many honors in the sport, Slaven Zambata competed in four Yugoslavia Cup championships - in 1960, 1963, 1965 and 1969. One of his major achievements was serving as captain of the Yugoslavian national team during the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo. In those games, Yugoslavia finished sixth out of 16 teams.

Zambata also briefly played for Belgium and for Austria during the years between 1969 and 1973. He returned to play for Yugoslavia in 1973, before retiring that same year. He had several injuries and surgeries on both of his knees prior to retirement.
